My Favourite ImageFour Spotted Chaser (Libellula quadrimaculata)
The Four Spotted Chaser
This Chaser must be the most colourful & perhaps one of the easier dragonflies to photograph in the UK.
Early season Chasers like this female have an array of colourful patterns & hues, that are not far short of stunning.
When you add these vibrant colours to the stunning wings, some really amazing images are possible.
It is a sturdy looking dragonfly and is fond of perching in fallow areas, in particular on the dead shoots of last years vegetation.
If approached from the rear some really detailed and close up images are possible.
It's not until you see this Chaser close up that you realise how stunning this insect actually is. Although it has to be said that they do dull with age and maturity.
