Quick ID Guide

Welcome to my quick Identification guide of the Migrant Hawker

These graphics are meant as a guide to the key identifying features of both the male and the female dragonflies.

The text section has been kindly written & supplied by Mr Ken Crick.

For a more complete species description, follow the link below to the Migrant Hawker narrative.

A medium sized dragonfly with steel blue eyes and two short yellow (antehumeral) stripes on the upper surface of the thorax. In flight the abdomen appears predominantly blue. At rest, a yellow triangle outlined in black can be seen located on the upper surface of the second abdominal segment. The leading edge (the costa) of the wings is black. On the most similar species, the Common Hawker (Aeshna juncea) the costa are yellow.
