Small Red Damselfly (Ceriagrion tenellum)
Welcome to my quick identification guide of the obliging Small Red Damselfly. These graphics are meant as a guide to the key identifying features of both the male and the female damselflies.
The text section has been kindly written & supplied by Mr Ken Crick.
This species is smaller than the Large Red Damselfly. The male Small Red has pale red legs; the upper surface of its thorax is black with no antehumeral stripes. The abdomen is bright red with no black markings. When at rest the abdomen is often bent slightly down at the tip resembling a miniature hockey stick.
For a more complete species description, follow the link below to the narrative of this damselfly.
