Dragonfly Galleries

A warm welcome to my digital dragonfly and damselfly image gallery website. It has taken many hours of patient stalking to obtain these images.

I firmly believe that taking the images is the easy bit, getting yourself in the best position to do so can be the real challenge.

Some species can be easily approached and photographed, others can be very wary and obtaining good images can be quite difficult. Patience and stealth are the key elements to overall success.

The images featured on this website were taken in Hampshire & the Kennet Valley in Berkshire, which are blessed with some of the best dragonfly & damselfly habitat in the south of England.

My camera of choice is now a Nikon D300 used with a Nikon VR 105 mm macro lens.

All the images on this site have been taken in hand held mode; if you would like more information, visit the roll out menu above.

The Magnificent Four Spotted Chaser

This website contains over 230 pages which can be accessed from the roll out menu in the top left hand corner of each page. Hover your cursor over a subject and a drop down menu will appear, then just select the page you wish to view from that menu. Use the white scroll arrows at the top and base of the roll out menu for further options.

An example of a pop up gallery can be seen below, these images represent some of my best work to date.

Camera Equipment

Dragonfly and Damselfly Narratives - There is a page for each local Odonata species with a more detailed description including their habitats, flight periods and breeding behaviour. These narratives have been kindly written and supplied by Mr Ken Crick.

Slide Shows - There is a slide show available for each Odonata species. Each slide show will play automatically (see below for an example) with a new image appearing every few seconds. This is an alternative and a more relaxed way of viewing the species images.
